digital camera not recognized anymore. help!

i posted this in a different section, but i think it's more relevant here.

I have a Canon PowerShot A70.  Zoombrowser [the application used to upload pictures] always worked fine for me until today.  I went to upload some pictures on to my computer, and i waited a while, and nothing happened.  finally it said "no camera."  my camera was definitely plugged in and turned on and the USB cord was connected.  i went to "my computer" > "scanners and cameras", and my camera's icon only appears there when i have my camera turned on.  (is this normal?)  when i double-click the canon powershot a70 icon, it says, "the computer cannot detect the scanner or camera.  please make sure the device is turned on and is properly connected to the computer."  i tried reinstalling my software and plugging the USB cord into different USB ports (how futile of me, i know).  nothing will work.

please help!  photography is my life and i don't know what's going on.

try using your System Restore (if your OS is XP)
revert to a date where everything is working fine... files that are save under mydocs are ok... dont save pics on desktop... they will be removed out of there...

If you wish to do a system restore go to Start-All Programs-Accessories-System Tools-System Restore. Doing a system restore will wipe out any programs which may have been installed between the date you chooose to restore back to and the present date.
I'm not familiar with Zoombrowser but you state it is an application. Perhaps you can try removing it from Add/Remove Programs and the re-install it. As an alternative you should be able to upload your photos by using Windows directly rather than Zoombrowser.

i can't get any restore points earlier than yesterday, and none of the solutions i've found throughout this forum have worked.

how do i upload my pictures through windows?

i'm thinking of calling Canon, but my main concern is that it is not a camera or software problem, that it's a system malfunction.  and i don't want to be on the phone all afternoon saying, "nope, that didn't work.  sorry, i can't open it.  hmm.  i don't seem to have that program."  etc.

Hi. I know this is not much help, but I am getting exactly the same as you, but for the scanning part of my Dell A920 printer/scanner. Have tried everything - all the diagnostics check out OK and the printer works, but the scanner is as dead as a dodo. Have just posted the problem this morning (have tried reloading the driver/software for the device quite a few times.)

Alright something really freaky is going on here because I am having the same problem. I have a Fuji Finepix A210. I've been using it for months. All I do is plug it into the USB port and turn it on and I get a dialog box. Today I do it and I get nothing. I still hear the noise that usually happens but no window comes up. I tried reinstalling the software and it doesn't help. What's going on?
