Dimension 4400 processor fan
Someone gave me an old Dell Dimension 4400 that is missing the processor and I think the processor fan. I think I can figure out what processor to purchase but I am not sure what to do about the fan. I have the green shroud and the heat sink; should there also be a fan? The heat sink is a peice of aluminum with fans, correct? I think I have the retention clips too.
As best as I understand a previous discussion, the system normally uses a processor cooling system that is special for Dell. Do I need to get a replacement fan that is a Dell fan or can I replace the whole system with a common cooling system? I assume that the Dell version will be more difficult to find and more expensive.
If someone can give me a general answer, then I will try to get the details from previous discussions if that is possible.

You can get an after market fan but in doing so you will get an error message each time you boot up that can be over ridden but its a pain to do each time. Go to the Dell Spare Parts Dept and see if they have one available. You will have to give them the model number which in this case of course is the 4400. I paid around $30.00 or so for my Dim 4400 fan but that was years ago.

The Dell 2X585 Fan & Shroud Assembly for the Dimension 4400, can be purchased from either here, or here.

Thank you, SR45.
Is the override just a matter of clicking okay or is it more than that? I assume it is more.
I called that number and got put on hold for a half an hour and then then the call was ended. I might try again some other time but there seems to be plenty of used units available using eBay.

Thank you.
Note that I also found the eBay solution on my own.
