Dimension 8400 format

I had problems with some programs in my Dimension 8400, so I decide to format it, but when I try to install Windows XP Home Edition, it tells me that there is no harddisk, what can I do????

If you have SATA Hard drives instead of IDE Hard drives ensure that you have the SATA drivers loaded, if your reinstalling with a Dell Branded OEM reinstallation disk it should load the SATA drivers during installation if not contact Dell Tech support for a solution to copy the drivers on floppy disk.

The 8400 needs a BIOS setting change before attempting to install XP. Read the last paragraph here, unless you have a RAID configuration and need to read the whole document.
