Dimension 9100

I am not sure if I was sent a bad machine or what but here are some of the current issues:

1. CD-RW & DVD-RW Drives disappear every so often after a reboot, it takes a complete shutdown  for 5 min to bring back up

2. Machine tends to lag after being on for 5 min every 2-3 seconds affects everything from typing to mouse movement to the overall general operation.
 - Ran diagnostics on the dual SATA HD's one scans with in 2 min other took over 20min no errors
 - Ran the entire diagnostics took 22.5 hours to complete dinner time one night to after I came home from work the next day

3. Had a memory chip gone bad - Replaced

4. Sound does not work from the card itself only the ports from the front of the machine

Just wondering if any other users are having similiar problems with their dimensions?

Suggested things you can do to resolve the problems:

1.  Open the case and verify that the cables to the optical drives are securely inserted.  Check that the jumpers at the back of the optical drives are properly set to "cable select."

2.  Turn off "Drive Indexing" service.  This service hogs the CPU and drives when the PC is first put into use as it takes an "inventory" of all the files.  Not needed in my opinion.

3.  Make sure that no speakers/earphones are plugged to the front audio out port when you're testing the speaker out port at the back.  Once verified that you have a problem w/ the port, then I'd suggest reinstalling the shipset driver then the audio drivers.  You can also try installing the latest motherboard bios if the current one is not the latest.  If all these fail, then you should call Dell for a replacement motherboard.

I bought  a Dimension 9100 in Aug. 2006. I have had nothing but problems, that Dell has not wanted to do much about. Anything from lock-ups, going to a Blue Save Screen, modems, you name it. So far All of the imput from Dell that I have received is a few e-mails untill Recently, I have been receiving  a few calls from them.  Hopefully the person that has been calling me back seems like he is trying to figure out some of the problems I have been experiecing all this time. This has been an ongoing thing, since a week after I received it.  Good Luck to You!
