DOS program and printer

Hello Dell Community,
I'm new to this forum and would appreciate assistance from users more exerienced than me.  Actually, I'm thumbs on a computer.
I am using an old (mid 80's) DOS invoice program and my old printer bit the dust. I have 25 yrs. of records on this DOS program and can't even think about switching to another software program.
Now I have to tell something??? that I have a Dell Printer so my estimates and billing statements know where to go.  The DOS program is still looking for the old printer.
Can anyone help me??
Thanks in advance,
AL

Do you have DOS printer drivers for the Dell?  Many newer printers no longer support DOS and drivers are not available for them.  You didn't mention which Dell printer you have so no one can give you specific assistance relative to that Printer.

You may want to repost in this forum section as it's for assistance with Dell ink-jet printers.

Don't forget to include your Printer Model Number.

This may or may not help.  The use of a DOS Program leads me to think you are not using the Windows XP operating system.

Printer cable is not connected properly:

Verify the printer cable is securely connected from the back of the computer to the printer. If you have a device such as a parallel scanner or zip drive temporarily disconnect this drive to verify it is not causing the issue with the printer.

Printer drivers are not installed or are corrupt:

If your printer has recently begin not to work attempt to reinstall the printer drivers to ensure that the printer drivers have not became corrupted or overwritten.

If you are trying to install the printer, verify that you are using the proper installation diskettes and or CD and that Windows is initializing the correct printer.

Ports are not installed:

Verify that the ports are correctly setup within Windows 9x Device Manager. You can check this by opening device manager, clicking the + next to ports and insuring that a Parallel port or LPT1 port is installed.

If this port is not installed, open control panel double click Add new hardware click Next, click No (to not detect new hardware if you have 95) or allow Windows 98 to attempt to detect. If Windows 98 does not detect the new hardware click No and click Next, select Ports and then select to install the LPT / Printer port. This port is generally always LPT1.

Thank you for responding with fresh advice.
I will immediately check-into the suggestions for the answer to my problem.
And posting (re-posting) to the Dell ink jet message board is what I should have done in the first place -- this is my first time here and finding my way around is like a needle in a haystack!
Thanks again!
