Go to Device Manager and expand the Display Adaptor section.  What does it say there for your video?

Mike3, to have a chance of the right driver you may need to post everything it says in Device Manager, under display adaptors, including the list of manufacturers.

It has a list of manufacturers

for standard adapters it only lists

standard PCI graphics adapter

They are all listed there. Windows keeps saying that the best driver is already installed.

There must be a update somewere but its not on my computer

If I go to Dell downloads for Dimension 8100, windows ME there are no video drivers listed for a standard PCI  graphics adapter VGA

And no Drivers for a M911 display

you could try the m991.exe from this address.. ftp://ftp.dell.com/monitors/
or the R44148.EXE for the 992 monitor. as for the video drivers. you will need to figure out which one is in your machine. the page lists 8 different sets of drivers for the video card. in the mean time you can just change your standart pci graphics driver to a super vga driver to shapen you picture while you figure out what you have.

I had it show all the compatible hardware and got STANDARD PCI GRAPHICS VGA 6-8-2000. this adaptor only gives me 800 x 600 pixels at 16 bit color.

ooops this should of said 640 x 480 not 800 x 600

Ok  I have some improvement here.

I opened the M991exe

I had it show all the compatible hardware and got STANDARD PCI GRAPHICS VGA 6-8-2000. this adaptor only gives me 800 x 600 pixels at 16 bit color.

I clicked on show all hardware and loaded SUPER VGA. Windows said this was not compatible but I loaded it anyways. Now I can get 800 x 600 pixels at 16 bit color.

Under the monitor tab I have 1024 x 768 32 bit loaded. I loaded this from M991exe but it also said it was not compatible when I loaded it. I need a driver that will give me 1024 x 768. (I think)

Do I need to open the computer and get a name off the graphics card? Will there be one if the computer just says it’s a standard PCI graphics VGA adapter?

GeForce 2MX NV11

So were can I find this driver? It's not on my computer and I can't find it on the web. It seems to be made by MSI.

Stop the presses !!!!!

I just found my packing slip

It says I have  32MB NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 4X AGP Graphics Card with TV-Out

I tried one of the NVIDIA drivers and it worked. I have a load of options for setting now
