Driver not Digitally signed

Updating drivers for ATI Radeon 9700 Pro w. TV out.
(Dimension 8200, WinXP Home)

Downloaded and expanded current update file. (57652)

During install through Control Panel/System/Device/Properties/Update driver, I get:

"Driver not digitally signed. Continuing may cause your system to become instable...."

Should I use these drivers, or should I use the drivers that are on the Windows Update web site. (I have read somewhere that one should never use drivers from the Windows Update site. But these appear to have been supplied directly from ATI; whereas the ones fron Dell are from Xceed corporation?!?!?)

On the other hand, the lack of Digital signature makes me nervou. Why would Dell be distributing such drivers without any mention of this, nor any warning or instructions concerning this. There is nothing on the Driver Download page about this.

Advice appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

Windows updates are always behind the latest from Ati....

My advice would be to stay away from the Dell drivers and windows update, and to go with the ones directly from Ati.... your always guaranteed the latest revison and they are digitally signed.... works perfectly

Thanks for the feedback.

Why I did not think of that in the first place is a mystery. I surely do not have much confidence in instructions and/or recommendations from Dell.

And from a cursory look at the info at ATI, it seems doubtful I have any need to update my drivers. I will of course read their info in detail, but even they say NOT to install new drivers unless there is a demonstrable need to do so. So far I can see none.

Just one more reason among many that I no longer trust nor follow the advice from Dell.

Based on other recent experiences of their stupidity and indifference, I will come to these forums for assistance first, well before ever calling Dell.

Thanks again
