Drivers?

I had to re-load Windows (thanks to the dreaded blue screen - Unmountable_Boot_Volume) - Since then, I have not been able to connect to the internet.  I contacted my ISP and they said that I had no drivers loaded.  Which drivers do I need??  My Dimension 4700c did not come with a Driver CD so I am having to download from the Dell Support site via another computer.  ANY HELP would be appreciated!

You should have loaded the chipset driver immediately after installing XP, followed by video driver, audio driver, in that order, and then other drivers (eg, modem driver and drivers for any other installed devices).

If you're not sure what's installed, hover your mouse over "Desktop" in upper left corner of any forum page. Select Dimension and insert your Service Tag number in the box on the next page. (Service Tag number is on sticker on the side of your PC tower.) Then, under "Select a tool" choose Original Configuration. You'll get the list of devices installed in your PC. Print it out.

Now go back to the previous web page and in that same "Select a tool" box choose Drivers & Downloads. Find the drivers for all the devices on the list on this new page and download each to your desktop. They should be self-installing so double-click them one at a time in the order listed above. It's probably a good idea to reboot after you install each driver just in case something goes wrong. Otherwise, if you install them all at once before rebooting, you won't know which one may be causing a problem.

Sounds like you're still missing a driver. Unless I missed it, I don't see a modem listed in your original system specs. Do you remember if you ordered an internal dial-up modem with the PC and/or do you have CD with either Intel or Conexant modem drivers? Are you using internal or external DSL modem, perhaps one provided by your ISP or phone company?

Did you reload software that came with the DSL modem? How is the DSL line connected to the PC? Via an ethernet port? In that case you may be missing the Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller driver that's listed under Network Drivers on the 4700C driver download page.

prcdGR - You're going to need chipset driver, network card driver (assuming you use it) and modem driver before you can log onto the internet. But you can download the drivers from Dell on any PC with functioning internet connection, copy them to floppy or CD and transfer them over to the other PC. So you shouldn't have problems getting them downloaded/installed.
