E510 audio driver dont work

hi,
my system info:
Dimension E510
Pentium® D Processor 940 with Dual Core Technology (3.2GHz, 800FSB), Genuine
intergraded 7.1 channel audio (on bard)

i recently reformate with  window xp PROfessional cd  (NOT THE ONE THAT DELL PROVIDES)
because i hate the dell version windows ("Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 with upgrade rollup 2".   :(

Everything works fine and i found all the drivers......  EXCEPT FOR THE SOUND.
so i try with the" dell resource CD" and the "driver downloads in dell.com"
which contains the sound card driver:  both of the drivers for  Sigmatel STAC92XX C-Major HD Audio Driver
does not work. Whenever i extract and enter setup, it tell me to restart comp, then it froze. so i have
to manually end task it to restart. After restart, it enter the Sigmatel setup then it tell me  that "THIS SYSTEM
DOES NOT SUPPORT THE DRIVER YOU ARE ATTEMPING TO INSTALL
"

well... what the heck???

is it because it has to be "DELL OPERATING SYSTEM" in order for this driver to be installed?

I like the MICROSOFT WINDOW PROFESSIONAL better cuz i have more control then the one dell provide ("Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 with upgrade rollup 2".

Can anyone help me?

Thx!

You apparently did not install the Chipset Drivers. they must be installed, after the Operating System and before any device drivers.

I have a new E510 and like it the way it is. I did uninstall the "junk" that I didn't want, but that's all. I have XP Pro on my old PC and there is only a very little administration differences.

The Dell Operating system is no different than the Retail's except the Dell provided OS will only load on a Dell.

You could try the download for the Sigmatel from the Dell download site and see if that works.

The only thing I can think of is there is a problem with the operating system install and you may have to start over. If you do, the correct sequence is (1) install OS, (2) install chipset drivers (3) install device drivers such as sound (4) reinstall applications and backed up user data.

You need to upgrade to Windows Service Pack 2 to use the onboard audio...
