ECC vs. non-ECC RAM?

Hi,

Is it better to get ECC RAM vs. non-ECC? What are the pros and cons? This is for an Inspiron 530.

thanks,
David

ECC has error correcting capability, non-ecc doesn't.

In most applications Non-ECC is just fine

Go to BIOS ( By pressing F2 key at Dell logo) and under System select Memory Info. According to the memory slot you will get the following information

The last Dell desktops to support ECC were the Rambus systems -- 8100/8200/8250.

It's been a decade or close since notebooks with ECC support were shipped - you MUST use non-ECC RAM in most newer Dells.
