Error Code 0x0 Diskette drive 0 seek failure, Plus Another Issue...

First I have read much about this error code, but have found several conflicting answers. My parents own a Dell Inspiron 530 that gets this error message:  "Error Code 0x0 Diskette drive 0 seek failure". Here at the Dell site I found this diagnostic and solution(although, it is for the Dimension series, have seen the same diag. for the Inspiron):

Summary for "A "Diskette Drive 0 Seek Failure" error message appears when starting a Dell Dimension computer´

This article discusses a "Diskette Drive 0 Seek Failure" error message that appears when starting a Dell Dimension computer that does not have a floppy disk drive. These symptoms are experienced after resetting the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS). This article discusses how to resolve this issue.

A "Diskette Drive 0 Seek Failure" Error Message Appears After Resetting the BIOS

When restarting a Dell Dimension computer after resetting the BIOS, the following error message appears:

Diskette Drive 0 Seek Failure

This issue occurs if both the following conditions are true:

  • The computer does not have a floppy disk drive.
  • The floppy disk drive is enabled in the BIOS settings.

For example, this issue may occur if the floppy disk drive is enabled by default in the BIOS settings.

To resolve this issue, use the System Setup program to disable the floppy disk drive in the computer BIOS.

I have an issue with this, because I DO have a floppy drive in this Inspiron. Furthermore, when I press F1 or F2 into sys. config., the Vista Home Basic x32 fails to load and I sit watching a blank monitor for eternity. Reboot gets same results over and over. Others have replied at other tech sites, "our floppy diskette drive may have failed. Try disabling it in sys bios." Once this is done the error message should cease. Finally, The OS and our desktop still fails to load up and I am still looking at a black/blank screen.

I know the error says, "Diskette Drive", but I am needing to know, could this actually be hard drive failure and do I need to purchase a new hard drive? If so, that wouldn't be a problem - I have the cash.

Any help would be so much appreciated. Thank you,

Mike

If you press F2 at the proper point - when it shows on the screen at POST (Power On Self Test) and it will not enter the Setup it has a BIOS problem and there is no need to go any further.   First step is to reset the CMOS memory (BIOS) and then see if you can enter the BIOS and that it will detect all the devices.  Some systems have a jumper to reset the BIOS but it's just as easy to remove the CR2032 battery on the motheboard for about 5 minutes to totally reset it.

When was last time you replaced the motherboard battery?

Hey guys,

Thanks for replying =) After much reading, I think you have the answer for me - there is a very good chance the cmos battery is dead, as the bios seems to reset at every reboot. Battery is factory and this rig is old. Will try that solution first, as it is the most economical troubleshoot and then will reset Bios and go from there.

I am CrybKeeper, but am also Mr Dannon - same guy as OP ;-)

Thank you so much for replying Fireberd and RoHe!
