Jcmcmahon, is the system emitting any beep error codes or is the diagnostic lights giving an error code which could help pin point the problem? You can
click here for an explanation of those error codes from your model's on-line Service Manual.
I get the code when I run the Dell diagnostic utility. The machine boots up fine, steps through the raid config, and then will not load the operating system. Screen goes black, and stays black.
I have been on the phone with Dell techs, 4 different ones, they all want me to reload Windows, but I beleive it is the motherboard or processor. I don't want to nuke all data until I'm sure it is not hardware.
Jcmcmahon, I've done several searches on that error code and like Mombodog I didn't come up with anything so it is tough to say where the problem lies. Did the hard drive(s) pass the extended hard drive test of the diagnostics ?
Removed video card, connected monitor to motherboard video out......no change. Still hangs at mup.sys while trying to boot in safe mode with command prompt.
Quyonmob,
click here for a forum search on the mup.sys problem. There are quite a few postings related to that problem and I would suggest reviewing them to see how other folks resolved it.

My thanks go to dell for supplying a nice card in the box instead of the CD.
Anyone come to a solution with this?
From what I have read tonight, its a XP SP2 vs. motherboard issue.
When I try to boot in safe mode...its halts at MUP.sys, so I cant even get to regedit or msconfig (or don't know how).
