When attemptint a clean install of XP Home SP2, I get the following message after the drive is formatted and files initially are copied to hard drive...

MACHINE-CHECK-EXCEPTION
This install has stopped to prevent damage to your computer.....
Technical Info:
*** STOP 0x0000009C (0x00000001, 0x808855F0, 0zF2000000,0x00000175)\

Have ran Dell32 Diagnostics ok.  The harrd drive, CPU, memory and CDROM all pass separate diagnostics.  The hard drive, memory, and CDRom work ok in other equipment.   The XP Home cd works ok in other equipment (trial install..not activated) .
I can install Win98SE, ME or Win 2000 Pro and the computer works fine.

I am a a loss of thing to do  Anyone got any ideas???.

Usually bad RAM.

Dell's diagnostics are near as good a RAM test as the XP installation

also check that your cd is ok, no scratches/dust. Sometimes can also be caused by cd/dvd player needing a clean.
