Error msg when booting up

Question

I am receiving the following error msg. when booting up my computer:  Previous attempts at booting this system have failed at chkp - [HDSK].  I need some assistance with troubleshooting/resolving this problem.  Thanks.

Sounds like a failed or corrupted hard drive. Can you plug the hard drive into another computer?

noah1114 Try running Dell diagnostics extended test, on the system. It would help, to post the computer model and version of windows. Bev.

The computer that I am having the issue on has a Pentium 4 intel processor, MS XP Professional, svc Pack 2. It is for a coworker and she has not given me the model yet.
