Fatal exception OD error

My Dell 4100 bought in July occasionally gets super slow and when I do ctrl-alt-delete I get "A fatal error 0D has occurred at CD13:0000FFFF The current application will be terminated, press any key". However, I then get a blank screen and only the mouse cursor moves. The only thing left to do hit the reboot button on the PC. The PC boots up fine after doing scandisk. I have called Tech Support but they are baffled. Any ideas?

This is usually indicative of a conflict involving the video driver. If Adobe Type Manager (ATM) was installed from the media provided with your HP printer, disable that software and use the system normally for several days to see if the fatal exceptions persist.

If they do, you may want to try eliminating programs starting up in the background that could be causing problems. Go to START | RUN, and in the Open box type "MSCONFIG" and click OK. Click the Startup tab, and remove the checks to nonessential programs, or programs that you do not use normally. Click OK, and restart when prompted. You can continue removing items (except for ScanRegistry, LoadPowerProfile, and SystemTray) until the problem clears up.
