file extensions

I was scanning my pc for viruses and noticed that it was scanning C:\restore\temp\A000xxxx.cpy files for a long time. I went to the restore folder and didn't find any folders there with the .cpy file extension. What are these files used for, and can i get rid of them to speed up virus scanning? thanks
Bill
