Flaky USB Mouse Problems

I am amazed to see so many other posts on this subject, and yet no clear, concise solution to the problem. Several of our new GX280 PCs have random mouse problems. The mouse will right-click or cruise on across the screen for no good reason. Sometimes when the user is not presently working on the PC. I have tried a different mouse pad with the Dell provided optical mouse, I have tried a USB to PS2 splitter with an two entirely different mice (old ball style) and still had the same problem (I am using the same splitters successfully on other GX280s). This is not on every GX280, just a certain few (a couple of which run AutoCAD). I am running out of ideas, and I think these people are sick of calling me all the time and having hardware swapped out.

Why, oh why did Dell take away the good old PS2 ports.

What do I need to do to fix this problem??? We are running W2K Professional SP4 if that helps.

Same

Just received a new batch of GX280's with USB Optical (DeLL) mice. WinXP2, the mice randomly "jump" across the screen -dragging, scrolling, doesn't matter on the action the mouse pointer will simply jump at random. This is very annoying.

Mouse driver is listed (in cpanel) as "HID-compliant mouse".

Optiplex configured wiTh dual-lcd displays and (dell installed) NVidia Quadro NVS 280 PCI-E adapter.

(note: not running autocad -simply standard MS-O/S software)

try using a different mouse pad. We had the same problem with optical mouse where it just suddenly jumps around.. we figured out that the mouse pads that came with gx280's ...some of them were good..  but some are bad..where the white logo part reflects the light badly....
