floppy drive

I am curious about the XPS 410 whether or not it is compatable with a floppy drive and can it be installed .  Reason is I have so much info on some floppy disks and would like to remove it to disc or dvd.

Do they make a floppy that would work with the usb ?
Thank you in advance

of course its compatable...u could use a USB floppy drive if there is no floppy drive bay on the front of your 410. one other note look in the xps 410 manual see how a floppy drive is connected

Speed,

Go to the Manuals link below left and follow the prompts to select the 410. On page 111 of the owners manual you will find "Installing a Floppy Drive". This whole section of the manual should be reviewed but it is a very simple install. You can buy a floppy drive at your local Frys, Compusa, FutureShop, etc. for $10 to $20. Most are made these days by Mitsui and come with a Black or white bezel. I think you will want black. Also the drives don't usually include a cable but in my XPS700 the cable was already installed and ready when I opened it to add the floppy.

The resaon I am asking is that when I purchased this 410 I asked the dell tech if it can be installed and he said no. and when I tried to add it with the media card it would not let me include it in this sytem/

Thanks Everyone for the replies

Speed,

If you look at the documentation it shows both installed. The manual says nothing about conflicts. There is a connector on the mobo for the floppy and the Media Card reader connects to the internal USB header. There should be no conflict. I have both on my 700 and that part of the mobo is similiar. Note if you choose to install the floppy it must be enable in the Bios setup.

Good question you asked. I had dell build me an XPS 410 with Flooppy, Media Reader and TV TUNER a few months ago, running Vista Ultimate. It worked fine for a while, and then had issues rebooting. Dell informed me that the 3 devices arent playing well together, and as of a few weeks ago, you couldnt order it the way i had configured mine. Not sure if there is an update to it, but they definately know there is some IO conflit b/w the 3 devices.
