Front panel microphone input not enabled

Question

My E520 has mic sockets on the front & back panels. Only the back one is displayed and enabled. How do I activate the front socket? Anyone have any ideas?

on mine, u just connect the mic port to the front and it and away u go, by doing this it deactivates the ports on the back   i currently have the sound blaster xfi, may work differently for you   you can also check in volume control >options>properties>recording>ok  to make sure your mic is not muted.

Thanks, but everything looks ok. I'll have to install a sound card, which I haven't got around to yet.
