games

I am hoping that someone can help me. i have a new deminsions desktop, and everytime that i put a games in it- it boots me out. Sometimes i get a fatal exception screen, other times the game will run for a few minutes, and then just kick me out. I usually end up back at the windows screen. i have e-mailed Dell twice, and have gotten the same instructions from them. They have suggested that I do a discscan. I have tried that, amoung other things. This is getting frustrating. Please help. It does it this with several of my newly purchased games.

This sounds too familiar to problems I had on our older PC.

I moaned and groaned at Eidos for 2 weeks, and just couldn't believe that the machine wouldn't run the game.

After attempting to run my latest game UEFA2000
all would start well, then abruptly dump me back to the desktop.

Finally the culprit!

The video card we had wasn't DirectX7a compatible, even though it ran most all of my games at high res.
We swapped it out for a Nvidia TNT2. No problems after that.

I would check your Video card compatibility and driver versions!

Hope this helps.

Thank you for responding. I do not know a lot about computers. The graphic card that I had installed with my Dell 4100 is the 32MB NVIDIA TNT2 M64 APG card. I asked the Dell salesman when I purchesed the system if I would be able to play pretty much any game on te market with this card, and he assured me that this would be possible. I just wonder if there is a real problem with my cd/dvd drive or if it is a simple problem of a program that is already installed not being compatable with the games. I have tried Myst, Everest,I even returned Beyond Atlantis, thinking that it had to be the game and not my brand new computer!!!I am so frustrated!

I have the exact same video card in both my PC's.
I also have a "new" 4100.

Haven't had any game problems so far, except for Joystick/gamepad issues.
No game port on my PC, so usb it is.

Am using the sidewinder precision pro and game pad pro.

The only game unhappy with the pad is Microsoft Midtown Madness..........go figure.......a big thx to Bill Gates

I've had the same problem about getting booted back to desktop in about 50% of my games. I have the 4100 series, but lowering the screen resolution down to 640 x 480 seemed to cure it. I know thats not a cure in itself as with a new machine you should be able to yank that res up with no problems but playing at lower res is better than not playing at all.
