Graphics a mess!!!!!!

Hi All....

I play FEAR Combat, and I just got a new DEM E520 (see specs below)

My gForce 7300 LE is NOT impressing me....And from what i've read about this card I should be VERY impressed!!....No matter what game preferences I set for both Graphics and Performance, nothing works....Graphics are pixelated, colors are off, and the game is very laggy....I've tried updating the video drivers and still doesn't work....I've tried letting the game choose the best optimal settings automatically, and even that don't help....

Any thoughts please????

You need to upgrade the card. Do a search of the forum. Alot of people like the 7600GT. The 7300 was the 1st card I had and I changed it out pretty quick.

Do a search. How much do you want to spend? How long are you going to keep the system? Are you ever going to upgrade to Vista? Only you know, do a search. BTW: thanks for the pm

Ok thanks....But you'd think with the specs of this card it could handle the bigger games!!....

Well, I plan on keepin the system for a few years....I really don't plan on upgrading to Vista no....That ATI card is $179

1. PCIe is what you have, not AGP
2. Your system had a choice of the same card at configuration, but in PCIe

I had that card too, changed it also. With a 22" Monitor you can do better but the card will work but not the AGP.

Yes it is pretty poor, good for running Vista Aero features and that is about it.  You can improve greatly your graphics capability for not too much money.

For everyone's reference, here is a rough sketch of video card hierchy's:

High end: ATI's ending in 900 or 950, Nvidia's ending in 800 or 900
Mid Range: ATI's ending in 600 or 650, Nvidia's ending in 600
Low end: ATI's ending in 300, Nvidia's ending in 300

For ATI, "XT" cards are better than "Pro" cards of the same chipset.
For Nvidia, "Ultra" is better than "GTX" is better than "GTS" is better than "GT" is better than "GS"

Also, just because a card is of a newer generation, does not mean it's better than all cards of the older generation!  An Nvidia 6800 will outperform an Nvidia 7300 even though the 7300 is a newer architecture.  As a general rule, low end cards are always inferior to mid range cards of the previous generation, and high end cards of the previous 2 generations.

Of course, folks with a little more technical knowledge should forget about the card designations and only look at the crucial numbers and architectures.  Hope this helps answer some general questions and clears up some common misconceptions.
