For about $ 150.00 you can select the 7600 GT PCI-Express card that will play that game, and others well.  Or pay much more, and get the 7800 GT or 7900 GT

Sounds like the best way to lose a friend.      Can they give you the same warranty as Dell?       That price sounds too low to even buy the same Spec. parts as a Basic XPS400.

$ 480.00.  Wow  !  Don't think so.... However, have him build one, look, and play with it for awhile, than if its working with the same hardware as the XPS 400 you can consider it, but not until than.   Have him give you a list of the cost of each part, and lets see if he can do it before he even starts.  Not hard to do.  Just go online and select all the parts needed and their costs.

Motherboard, CPU, Memory, Case, DVD burner, Power supply, New retail copy of Windows XP, Video card, Sound card, Modem if needed, No warranty of course, and no tech support either for $ 480.00.   Lets see the list of parts and cost from his search on the internet that will do it for that cost......

Its up to you but I can't stand single core CPU's I never did. I used to always get dual CPU setup's until Intel came out with HT enable CPU's.
My notebooks were the only place I was single core until this one I'm on now, a Latitude D820 with Core Duo.

My .02 is get a low end X2 and pay the difference or get the Dell.

Not at the present time. id games based on the newest engine are multithreaded but most others are not. I do expect this to change over the next several months and into Vista's release. It most likely will be longer though like two to three years befor nearly all games support it.
