graphics problem need help

I have a GE force fx 5220 graphics card and on some games that I play mainly shoot em ups the graphics and sound and jerky and stuttery.Which means that the game is unplayable.Has anyone plaese got any tips.

One suggestion is to reduce the game video resolution to a lower setting.  You should also reinstall the original drivers that came with the card.  If you want to try later driver version releases, then start with a release number next higher than the original mentioned above.  Try out each higher version releases until you find stability problems in your games.  Back off to the previous version that was more stable.  A driver cleaner utility would be helpful for uninstalling drivers.  Note that the latest Nvidia drivers are optimized for the latest cards, not the older generations.

Adding on to what ccwind said

A lot of FPS has a advanced menu, or graphics options beside the resolution that you might need to adjust, and also the newer the game is, the better off you probably will be with newer drivers.

And another thing I forgot to mention, make sure the game has the latest updates or patches for it too.
