Hard Drive Recognition Issues
Hello!
Dell Vostro 220 / Windows XP Professional SP2 / Seagate Barracuda (ST3500620AS) / NO Floppy Drive
I have been attempting to setup this hard drive using both Windows setup and the hard drive manufacturer's setup software with no success.
The drive is recognized in BIOS, Windows setup and drive setup software does function.
At this point, while attempting to use Windows Setup, I cannot install the Dell SATA drivers via F6 for there is no floppy drive included. I have a floppy drive available; however, there is no plug for the floppy.
The Dell SATA drivers were acquired directly from Dell, and I do have them on a CD.
How can I install these SATA drivers during Windows setup without using a floppy drive?
Good day,
Vince

Do a Google search for nLite. This software allows you to build a new ISO/CD that can include the SATA drivers so you don't have to figure out how to get a floppy drive working.
Another option is to get a USB floppy drive, connect it prior to powering up, boot to the CD and see if it'll accept the USB floppy drive as the source for the SATA drivers.

Sometimes a USB stick will work. I was able to flash the BIOS of my 220S using a combination of a bootable USB floppy and a 256mb USB stick.
I am surprised you need to install a special driver for that drive, though. It should install automatically.

I integrated the drivers into the Windows install and it worked perfectly.
The hard drive was recognized by Windows. It is partitioned and formatted properly and Windows XPP is functioning fine!
Thank you for the suggestion!:emotion-2:
