Hardware Config. Problem/Boot Problem
I have a Dimension E310, after running System Mechanic I got the following error message on re-boot..." Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware config problem. Could not read from the selected boot disk, check boot path and disk hardware". I tried accessing recovery console, re-loading a fresh install....and as a last resort I re-formatted and re-loaded windows..all with same result. I'm I missing something here? Thank you in advance for your help.

System Mechanic might have messed up your Boot config I would suggest you to try to re-install the boot software

Always include the version of Windows in your posts. Did you install all the right hardware drivers, in the correct order after loading the OS?
What color are the 4 diagnostic LEDs on front panel when it won't boot? If not all green, look up error codes here.

Ron,
My OS is XP, and after re-formatting I could never get far enough to load anything. I suspect my boot path is incorrect, but not sure how to resolve. At one point prior to re-format I tried to use recovery console, but when i entered my admin pw, it just took me to a C:/ prompt. As far as lights fo, I didn't notice any error lights, also I did run the hdd troubleshooter, and it was fine.

If it took you to the C:\ prompt, that was the Recovery Console. It's "command based" and not a graphical user interface.
Assuming you have a SATA hard drive, how is SATA Operation set in BIOS Setup?
XP doesn't have SATA drivers built in, so you have to change SATA Operation to RAID Autodetect/ATA before running the XP installation. And you have to install the SATA drivers from a floppy diskette during the XP installation by pressing F6 when prompted. If you don't have an internal floppy drive, there's only a very geeky way to install the SATA drivers.
When XP reboots the first time, assuming you installed the SATA drivers, you'll have to go back into BIOS Setup and change SATA Operation to RAID Autodetect/AHCI before it will be able to boot to the desktop.
