HARDWARE INFORMATION DATA BASE PROBLEM
I sure hope someone out there has some advice or help cus I am ready to pull my hair out. Ok here it is:
3 days ago system did an auto update and I also attemped to install IE 6. Update was ok I think. Install of IE 6 would stop responding at 64%. I tried this 4 times then gave up. At that time I all ready had alot of problems with IE 5 locking up on me so I was hoping this would maybe fix that. Wong. When I went to restart Win. Me the "Updating hardware information data base" window appeared. With in moments it stopped responding. and I ended the task. and then had to restart windows, again same thing. After many hours of working with this all I could do was start in safe mode, restore register from 11/20. Now if I do anything at all even restart, it goes back to the same situation. I have run all kinds of diognostics, tried to reinstall Me, stopped responding with in minutes, several times. Gave that idea up. Removed all hardware that is not ness. at this time. ect. you name it I think I have tried it. But then I am no computer Guru. I am sure that I have missed something very important but what I don't know. All I know is that if I try to upgrade, undo, restore, ect. nothing works. At this time only going to safe mode and dos and then going back to registery from 11/20 gets me back into windows.

Do a search for "OEM*.inf" (without the quotes). You will probable find TONS of them. Delete them all (it can take a very long time to delete them), then try to install IE6.
