Hardware missing? HELP!
I recently had to re-install my Dell XPS 400 operating system from scratch, all was going well untill I noticed no sound. I went to the "Device Manager" and under Other Devices there was a list of items that had yellow question marks next to them. I prceeded to re-install the drivers and got the audio, modem and most others working. I still have thre that won't install. 1) SM Buss Controler, 2) Video Controller, and 3) Video Controller (VGA Compatable). When I click on the properties button the box says: The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver. when i do that by hitting the the reinstall button and stepping throught the wizard, it responds with : The hardware was not installed because the wizard could not find the necessary software. This is done withe the DELL drivers and Utilities Disc in the drive.
Funny thing is, I'm on the very same computer now. The moniter woks just fine though I gat no sinal when I hook it to a 23" Samsung monitor. That monitor worked fine before the first crash.
Any Ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?

Always include the version of Windows in your posts!
You probably didn't install the drivers in the correct order and/or didn't install some of them:
Unless #1 and #2 are installed as very first drivers, in that order, after loading Windows, other drivers may not install or may not work. If that's what happened, download both of them to your desktop and then reboot in Safe Mode. Install them in order, and reboot normally. If the other hardware still doesn't work correctly, reinstall their drivers again.
It's better to download the latest versions of the drivers directly from Dell because your CD is probably out of date.
