having a problem with msconfig

Question

not sure if i should ask this question in here but here goes anyway.....   i have a dell dimmension 4600, i am trying to disable some start up programs that start up and runs when the computer starts. but i can not get the msconfig to run.   when it decides to start up and run its only available for a couple of seconds then it goes away before i can use it.  can anyone help me with this?  thanks

floydndana, I suspect you will find similar behavior by regedit and task manager. See this.

actually the problem is only with the msconfig, but thanks for the article  i will read it

Put the windows xp cd in your CDrom and then click on START / RUN type in SFC /scannow then click ok. This will make sure your system files are correct and might fix this issue with msconfig.   thanks
