help! nv4_disp infinite loop error

Question

I have a Dell Dimension 8300 and I got the blue screen of death with the error message 'driver stuck in infinite loop' nv4_disp.  I tried de-installing and then re-installing the latest driver for the GeForce 5200 video card but that did not work.   This happened a few hours after I logged off my game Syberia.   I can only boot up in safe mode, if I try to boot in Windows operating normally, the screen goes green, then black and then I get the blue screen of death.   I have unistalled that game and a few others that I don't access.  I ran a disk defraggmenter, I tried to a DELL PC check up but it didn't work.   Do I need to replace my video card? Is there an alternate solution I can try?

what driver version?... i've had this problem a few times and reinstalling a difference driver version worked

Well I really messed things up.  I thought I would re-install windows xp, so I de-installed the service pack, installed windows from the CD but I can only operate in safe mode, so I can't even log on now in safe mode becasue windows needs to be activated before I can use it.    If I try to log on with windows in normal mode it doesn't work and I get a different blue screen of death with a hardware issue.   Is there any hope for me?

I figured out I did not do a proper clean install of XP. Tried that and my system worked fine until I downloaded the driver for the nvidia card. I'm going to get a new card.

I too am looking for a new card. If you saw on my previous posts uninstalling and reinstalling drivers didn't work. I even had one of my IT specialists at work try to fix it and his conclusion was that the card went bad. He indicated that the Nvidia 5200 has a lot of history of going bad.

yeah that happened 2 mine also but i also when it does not shut down every once in a while there is inverted pixels following my mouse it looks almost like a word or a barcode.......any ideas?

Hi, Well I have a Dimension E310, I have replaced RAM from 1GB to 2GB, and I ahve added a Nvidia GeForce 6100 graphics card, I get the blue screen about the infinite loop multiple times per game upload, I have done all possible solutions, and none worked, i've gone from BIOS, to uninstalling factory intel graphics card, driver updates, roling back my drivers for nvidia card, and finally i ran a stress test, no errors with graphic card, but i had found errors with my RAM, so i went and bought new RAM, still crashed, I even prior to buying new RAM came to conclusion that maybe i was given a defective Nvidia graphics card, sent it in and they returned me with a brand new one, and i got the errors even more.

I have also disabled and unistalled the intel graphics card once, but somehow it came back, and so i disabled and unistalled it agian, and now evertime i do that, when i treboots the video controller picks it up and installs it again.. Any solution to that problem also would be of great help.

I'm not sure what this issue is, but i understand your stress, because all i want to do is relax over summer, but i can't because my game crashes every 2 seconds.
