Help with Dimension4300 adding geo fx5500 (DDentry10 errors)

I play Everquest, which has recently begun to require dx9.  After I downloaded DX9, I discovered that the rage video that came with the computer does not support dx9, so I got a Geoforce FX5500 to replace it.

No matter how often I try to load/reload the drivers or DX9 (I have the latest drivers installed for both) when attempting to enter the game I get a DD10entry error, saying the dynamic entry was not found, DDRAW.dll.

I have attempted to remove the old AtiRage pro drivers, but with no luck.

All Microsoft updates are up to date, there are no viruses or registration problems present, and I have tried all suggestions EQ tech was able to supply to no avail.  There is no spyware on the system. (I tried all the easy fixes I could think of)

Neither Virus software or a Firewall is running while attempting to access the game and dx9.

Any suggestions would be welcomed, this computer is only a couple of years old, replacing it is not really an option, and after spending money on a new video card i would really like to get it working.

Any help is appreciated!

That address is the video faq, give it a careful read. Should help. If it does not, let us know.

Thanks for the reply.

I went through every link, and tried those applicable, but sadly, no luck.

Any other suggestions?

http://www.computerforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1312 refers to putting Direct X 8.1 in first I did google search on DDentry10. Might help. See if the Direct X 9 passes its self-tests. If you don't have a Directxdiag icon start search directxdiag will find it and run it. Tests direct draw direct 3d, etc. See if that's OK.

Thanks JDre - although neither that nor the other hundred things I tried until 2AM worked, this morning, I deleted all ddraw.dll files, and reinstalled just that - then reinstalled dx9, and then (I think this is what did it) uninstalled all dll files from the game that would not work, since I decided that the problem had to lie there.

I must have held my nose right, becausde it now works! *happy face*

Thank you for trying to help - it was most appreciated, and I just wanted to let you know I got it working. :)
