Help!

I'm having numerous problems lately.
It started with the system locking up and nothing helped.
I ran the Dell Diagnostics and everything checked okay.
Afterwards, when I power up the system it starts "Detecting" only to notify me that the operating system is not found.
I tried to reinstall Windows 98 and a message shows up stating "No fat or fat 32 partion"
Other times the system notifies me that it cannot write to the C drive.
This last time I booted the system Plug and Play noticed that the printer was connected and I had to reinstall the printer driver, which has always been connected and the drivers already installed.
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!
I starting to fell like I have a lemon.

Just a suggestion.... have you tried virus scanning your system? If you did do a virus scan, did you use the latest .dat files or virus signature updates for your anti-virus software? Most people neglect the update part. Just a thought.

I ran norton virus scan and downloaded all updates.
The scan results were negetive.
The system still locks up and occasionally shows a "DETECTING _ " line at the top of the screen.
After several seconds it displays a message that
"Operating system not found".
