when i turn on my dell dimension L800r it loads for 3 seconds(exactly) then asks me for the "current system password" i havent enabled a password so i was confused, so i changed the harddrive to see if it was the origional hard drive, but it still did the same thing, so i figured it must be the motherboard, is there any way i can find out this password or dissable it with out loading up the dell pc, because it wont start up or go past that menu, ive tried going into the dos before it has a chance to go to the black screen with "enter current password" on it, but as soon as dos starts loading it stops and goes to that screen, and i dont know the password.(inm currently on my mums pc)

Well, someone did enable the password.

See page B17 in your manual or online here: http://docs.us.dell.com/docs/systems/dmum/3558pa06.pdf.  Note that this will erase many system settings also as the documentation will tell you.

elseanio_123,

Is it possible that your mum put a system password on the computer?

Question is ?  Where did it come from? Ask the previous owner ,if you might know them. Or find the truck it fell off of!!!

Note: Do at your own risk - should be left to more experienced computer users - have someone help you if possible.

Go into your CMOS Setup and copy down all the info, expecially that of your hard drive info.  When you exit the CMOS setup, choose Exit Without Saving Settings.

Now turn off you computer.  Unplug it from the wall.  Open the case and remove the small silver battery (remember what side was up before you remove it).  Leave it out for a few hours, overnight would be best.  Then put the battery back in  and start up the computer.

You should no longer be asked for the password when Windows starts up.

That works with some systems, but not a Dimension L___r, for which you must place the System Board Configuration Jumper into Maintenance mode.
