Get an Nvidia 6600 AGP card. Check out http://www.newegg.com  They will show you different brands and reviews from people that have used the specific card you are checking out. I would suggest either Leadtek, BFG, MSI or EVGA branded cards. Be sure you get an AGP that is 4x/8x.

How much are you willing to spend ?

AGP version only  for your system

6200 card is so so in games and is well under $80

6600 plain is better and around $115

6600 GT is much better and is around $135.00 on up depending on the card and any promotions

6800 card also will work in your system, but more costly  around $ 179.00

Dim 4400 ( 3 Years 7 Months, going strong )
2.6 Ghz 400 FSB
1 Gb 2100 DDR Memory
20 Gb hard drive 7,200
Windows XP Home - SP-2
Leadtek 6600 GT
48xCDRW
17 LCD ( 1703 FP )
250 watt power supply

Anything less than a 6600 GT and you'll only be able to play at low settings a year from now. :smileysad: With the next release of video cards, even the 6600GT could be pushed into the lowend/budget category.

The 4600 system takes the AGP slot video cards.  When looking for a video card, make sure it has on the box, AGP and not PCI or PCI-Express, sometimes called PCIe.  Those last two will not work.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814145107   Here is one 6600 GT card in the AGP slot flavor, and it has the Y molex cable power connector that you will need to hook it up with.   Now, since you are not that experienced with the computer stuff, hooking the Y molex cable might seem challenging, but it really is not.   Let us know what your plans are and we can assist further.

You may wish to read up on installing cards on your system from the User Guide, linked below

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim4600/en/4600/sm/cards.htm#1136594    Adding a AGP video card on your system, if you already have a agp card in this slot.

User Guide for your system...  http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim4600/en/4600i/sm/index.htm

You may need extra steps if you are using the integrated video chip instead of a dedicated vidoe card.  Integrated means its built onto the motherboard and is not a real graphic card and is very low end

I suggest getting the 6600 GT card ( AGP version ).... We or someone in your family or neighborhood can assist in getting it installed.  I to, started out not knowing much about computers, that is why they have computer books, and this forum to help us.  When you are ready, we can give you a step by step instruction on how to do it.  Not that difficult, and only takes between 10 to 15 minutes time, depending on the individual.

If the 6800 is within your budget, $179 is decent, then you should get it as it is several cards up the foodchain from the 6600GT.

I have the Dim 4400 system, so yours may be some what different and hope someone with that Dim 4600 can verify this....

I used a Y molex power cable.  Connected one end, of course to the back of the video card.  The other longer end, I connected to a spare power connector right next to the cdrw drive only.  You may see one there or next to the dvd drive.  I left the other end of the Y cable connector to dangle free, and was not connected to anything else.  I was told not to connect it to the hard drive at all since it was problematic for some reason, but was not told why.  I did not have a power connector free from the power supply either.

If you do not have a spare power connector, you then pull the power connector off the hard drive or optical drive, attach it to the Y-splitter, attach one end of the splitter back on the drive and the remaining (3rd) end of the splitter to the video card.
