hyper threading?

I have a dimension 4600 with  P4 at 2.66 ghz. 512 ram . Do I have hyper threading on this machine? I looked in BIOS under CPU and there is only "normal" or "compatible" settings. I don't want hyper threading because of another software program I will be using

Thanks

The ability to enable or disable hyperthreading will only show up in the BIOS if the CPU is a hyperthreading enabled CPU.  The 2.66 Ghz CPU runs at 533 mhz and is not hyperthreading enabled.  Thus the option will not be present in the BIOS.  If you had a 2.6 Ghz, 800 mhz CPU, that CPU is hyperthreading enabled, and if installed the option to enable or disable would show up in the BIOS.

What program are you using that makes you not want HT? Since HT generaly improves multitasking responsiveness and offers 10-30% increase in performance when running 2 or more intensive threads or applications at the same time.

Actually, HT doesn't do much good right now until programs are made for it.

Actually, HT does a lot of good as long as you're running two or more CPU intensive applications or threads.
