The D4700 is a much better system. The D3000 is an entry level system with limited upgradibility.

For video editing you should get the 8400. Wait for a good Dell special deal of the week. Subscribe to the Dell newsletter that sends you the weekly deals. That's how I got an 8400 that was better equipped and cheaper than a less equipped 4700.

I get dell mailings but not there newsletters unless your referring to the mailings.  How does one get the emailed newsletter if they have one.  We have 5 dells but haven't bought one in the past 5 years so it must be new.

Thanks,
Chris

Either the 4700 or 8400 would be fine for Video editing, and encoding.

My advice...

Don't think twice about a 3000. It's a great email box.

4700 should cover what you want to do. That's what I have and I love it. If you can get a deal on a 8400 go for it. But the 4700 should last you for years to come./

Hi Mary.  I just received my new 8400 computer last month.  Mary, I noticed in the BIOS at bootup that the hyperthreading was turned off, and this was the factory set choice.  I'm not really familiar with hyperthreading, but is it okay to turn it on?  Thanks,

Yes turn it on, that was a bios glitch.
