Or: Start--run type in "sndvol32" ok. (no quotes)
Use your mouse the raise the volume on the first 2 items.

Is it just certain media players or all volume is low?
Is the headphone volume lows too?
What model PC, Operating system and what sound card or on-board module?

all but winamp, but on that you can use the decibel slider to increase the volume there. the headphone volume is very low as well.
im on a dimension 4600, with windows xp and SoundMAX Digital Audio card

How are Windows sounds? At log-on and shutdown? are they low too?
It may be also possible that you music files were encoded at a low volume. If they are mp3's you can boost the volume using a program called "mp3Gain" and apply the same boost to all mp3's. But don't boost them above 95 DB, or they will be distorted. Some distort at a lower setting. 90 db is ideal. But you can go as high as you want, but if there is clipping, you'll need to lower the boost.
If they are not mp3's, you'd have to convert them to mp3's first.
Here is a link to mp3 gain:

And, has your computer been louder in the past? if not, it's not the computer, or soundcard.
I bought a Creative I-trigue 3300 (80 watts) amplified speaker system with a subwoofer, and it's loud, but not as loud as my Stereo System. But the bass is good.
My guess is, if you want it loud, you'll have to buy a high powered speaker system.
See if you can find one at Wal-Mart. If you don't like it, take it back, and get a refund (save your receipt) Or any place that will refund you money if not pleased.
