INspiron 530S memory upgrade

I have an Inspiron 530S that I just upgraded from a Intel Core 2 Duo 800mhz FSB with 2mb L2 to a Quad core Q6600 1066mhz FSB with 8mb L2. I wanted to upgrade my memory from the old 4 slot - 4GB maximum (4x1GB) PC2-5300 to 4GB PC2-8500(1066mhz). Will increasing the memory speed help performance after the increase in L2 cache by 6mb on the new CPU?  Must I install Four- 1GB sticks or can I use Two- 2GB sticks instead. Finding 1GB sticks of PC2-8500 is getting harder to find but I love this machine and plan to keep it for a while longer. Thanks for your help.

First if your not running a 64 bit OS then anything over 4 gig would be a waste.  I really don't think you can run the  PC2-8500 memory. I would stick to the PC2-6400 or 800mhz memory. Dells are very very picky about memory when populating all four slots.

FYI your memory buss does not run at the same speed as the FSB.

I am running Windows 7 64 bit and the computer recognizes the the four 1GB sticks in there. Listing 3.99GB physical memory present. The Inspiron 530s has the Intel G33 Express chipset that is capable of managing at 800mhz, 1066mhz, or 1333mhz speeds as listed on Intel's web site. If the chipset can manage OVER what I am asking it to do(1066mhz) I should be fine but CAN I PUT JUST TWO 2GB sticks of PC2-8500 in two slots or MUST I use four individual 1GB sticks? Dell says max memory supported as 4GB using four 1GB sticks(one per slot) but the Intel G33 chipset can support up to 8GB(2GB per slot). So will each slot only support up to 1GB or can the chipset manage a 2GB stick in the memory slot?

My 530s only take the 2 types of memory, that being the 667Mhz, and the 800Mhz. That is the only type of memory you can use in a 530s, also they must be in the same, or the system will run at the lower speed, the max memory for the 530s is 4 GB.
