Installing RAM
I am thinking of buying 2 x 4GB DDR3 RAM for my system from the current 3 x 2GB DDR3 RAM. The slot closest to CPU starts with no 4 and next to it is no 1. So is it safe to install the new RAM on slot 1, 2 and the old RAM at slot 4,5, and 3? I am running on a i7 930 Studio XPS 9100.
Thanks.

Hi Silz,
The recommended memory configurations are: matched memory modules installed in DIMM connectors 4, 5, and 6 and another set of matched memory modules installed in DIMM connectors 1, 2, and 3. You can see the layout here.

So it would really be best to purchase a set of three matched modules. Crucial has a 3x2GB kit for $45.
