I just purchased a Dimension 4600 and I'm having similar problems using Orbitz. When I try to perform a search for airfare rates the task bar moves to about 40% and just hangs there. Sometimes I can reclick continue a couple of times and it works then.
I started using AOL as my ISP and started having problems almost immediately. I have been using Orbitz for a couple years on a Windows 95 and 98 computer with Compuserve as my ISP with NO problems.
I had heard about this problem from a friend of mine who was also using AOL. I then switched to Earthlink which was better at the beginning and now I'm having problems with that. I call Earthlink and they tell me to delete the cookies and temporary internet files. I also called Orbitz and the recommended the same thing. I guess I don't feel that this should be the solution as it's kind of a pain to have to do that all the time.
First tip--start a new post instead of dredging up an ancient one. In answer to your question, your security settings for the Internet might be set too high to allow Active X that these travel sites use. Go to Internet Options, Security, Custom Level and check.
I was having problems opening certain sites with my new Dell also. Tried all the recomended fixes like changing my security level etc.. and none of them worked. Finally I decided there was something corrupt with internet explorer. So I went to a site and downloaded free adware and spybot software, cleaned out all the junk that they uncovered, and the sites now open no problem. The site I used
spywareinfo.com
Hope this solves your problems like it solved mine. B

Mary,
I tried to do what you said, here's what I did.
Went to internet options:
Clicked on the security tab
Clicked on the Custom Level Button
Changed the Reset To: from medium to medium-low
Clicked OK
Went back and checked the Reset To: and it still displays medium
Looks as if nothing changed.
What could I be doing wrong, and I guess another question is, is medium too high. There isn't a choice any higher than that.
