Interupt Request errors

I have a XPS R400 and just recently installed a network card in my system, and when I booted back up, I noticed that one of my devices was not working (TBS Montego Soundblaster Emulation). When I looked at it closer I saw that the Interupt Request resource was crossed out. Also it would not let me manually change this. Do I need to remove something from my motherboard (dial up modem hopefully?) to have enough resources to get this to work? I still have 1 ISA and 1 PCI slot open, so I don't understand why this isn't working. If anyone knows how to fix this, or can tell me if by removing my dial up modem that would fix it, please let me know =)

P.S. - This is the first real problem I have ever had with my Dell system over 4 years, if it last another 2 I'm going to take it to college with me and use it as a linux box =)

Hello-I had to remove my modem and disable the Sound Blaster Emulation(a DOS program) to install my network card and firewire card without conflicts. If I recall correctly, I disabled the Sound Blaster Emulation program in the Device Manager and yanked the modem because I have DSL and wasn't using it. If you click on the DV Info link in my sig, then go to the troubleshooting page, I think there's more info about IRQ's and the Sound Blaster Emulation. Someone else will probably provide some additional insight as well.

I had the exact same problem after installing a network card. It used the same IRQ as my Soundblaster emulation. It didn't show up as a conflict but it took away my DMA and autoplay on my disc drives. I posted it on DellTalk and someone told me to change SoundBlaster Emulation IRQ to the same as my printer (IRQ 7). I did this and all of my problems went away! These people on here are great! Hope this helps like it did for me.
