iPod not Recognized by Computer
I have a 15 Ghz iPod from about 2003. I have used it for about a year with my Dimension 2300 (1.8G Celeron, 256M Ram, XP). I have alot of music on it and it has been operating OK. Now I want to ad some more music. Some of the music I got from CD's and some from iTunes. I have since removed iTunes from my computer and continue to use Musicmatch to manage my music. Now I am unable to get my computer to recognize my iPod when I hook it to the computer, so I can't add more music from my library. I have tried several times to reset the iPod to no avail. The troubleshooters say I should "restore" the iPod, but I'll only do that as a last resort, since it removes all the music. It takes hours and several battery rechargings to re-enter all of the music. Any suggestions?

Removing iTunes may have removed the driver for the IPod.
Also, check the MMJB site for any iPod drivers for MMJB.
But, I suspect the removing ITunes caused the problem and you will probably have to reinstall it.

After I started seeing this problem, I removed iTunes hoping it would eliminate the problem. I only installed iTunes a few months ago so I could use an iTunes gift card. I have used MMJB to manage my iPod music files for over a year.
I'm not sure that I would recognize a driver, but there are many files in the MMJB folder with ".dll". Those may be drivers.

I have MMJB 10.0 (not plus). I find no downloads for iPod on the MMJB website. MMJB says there are no available updates. I've tried to use the updater in my iPod folder, but it won't allow me to, except to completely restore to factory settings and remove all music.
I currently have 2.0.1 software on the iPod. I have already downloaded but not installed some new software for the iPod. I imagine that if I do that it'll erase all my music. It is a file designated setup.exe and is version no. 3.8.0. Should I install it? Can I install it if my computer won't recognize the iPod is there? .
Another observation: If I try to run the iPod Updater without the iPod connected, it says the iPod is not connected. If I do the same with MMJB open and the iPod connected, it says "Updater detected other appplications accessing iPod. - - -". This seems to suggest that MMJB can tell that iPod is there, but can't recognize it, so possibly the iPod software is corrupted. Help!
