Is this a problem with my graphics driver?
Hi, let me start off by showing some specs:
Microsoft Windows XP
media center edition
version 2002
sp3
XPS/Dimension 410/9200
intel core 2 cpu 6300 @ 1.86GHz
1.86 GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM
my problem is lil dots on my screen, they are not stuck pixels, bc they are not always in the same spot. im thinking its something to do with my graphics card. While using anything in a window i get these dots, and when i move the window, they leave trails. the trails dont leave after moving is done.the dots are always visable, even at start up, and on desktop. i can screen shot this, and it still comes up when i paste in paint. and its always been this way since i remember first using this pc, so im thinking its not a virus or something related. but i have 2 other ppl living with me who share this pc, that used it before me. if u think its related to temperatures, mines usually running at 78-80 degreesc with this problem.
i also have a problem with the screen flashing black, when i use cursor(as in clicking things, moving over a program in start bar), althought i think thats a different problem. as the screen flashes black, graphix start to mess up(anywhere from icons on desktop becoming glitch-looking, or start tab messing up). this problem hardly ever occurs, about once a month. is my monitor over heating or something?

The warranty on a desktop normally comes with in-home service so you do not have to send your computer in for repairs. Because your computer is still under warranty, it is best to contact Dell. I do not see a video card listed in your specs. Do you have a dedicated video card in your computer? Usually, you will not find any issues with an integrated graphics chip. Do you know if you are up-to-date with all your drivers from Dell's download page? Have you run the Dell Diagnotics software? HERE is your manual for troubleshooting.

Those artifacts are an indication that deadly dust bunnies have choked the gpu and case fan and the card has overheated a few times.
I would get a new Video card and vacuum/blowout the dust.

yes, you need a new Videocard Def, i had an sli pair that over heated and it did the same thing, more and more pixles were changing colors and slowly taking over my screen, i tried new heat sinks and drivers, nothing worked, cleaned out my system of dust and replaced. works like a charm, gotta always make sure u have enough air flow and clean out your cases often, dust is the number one killer for overheating.!!! =] hope this helped

yeh, i looked up alot of the warranty info last night. its not my pc, so i wasnt sure if it was cleaned. i talked to a dell tech. rep. lastnight, they told me to take out the card and put it back in. im going to do that and dust everything out, hopefully this fixes the pixel thingy. and the black flashes. if not, they will probably send me a new card.
im thinking about buy'n a more updated card tho. theres a nvidia geforce 9400 gt that looks nice, and in my price range.
my graphics card i have atm, is nvidia geforce 7900 gs, and its not very nice.
ty for the help. ill probably post my computers status after i try the solutions; tomorrow.

Performance wise, the 7900GS is actually a better card than the 9400GT. If you are looking to upgrade versus downgrade and stay in the price range of a 9400GT, then you would want to look at an ATI HD 4650 or a 9600gso like THIS ONE.
