Issues replacing CPU heatsink/fan in Studio XPS 8100
I'm attempting to replace the CPU heatsink/fan in my Studio XPS 8100 desktop, using a Dell model 0TJ5T2 (http://i.imgur.com/NMu2wYk.jpg is my actual unit). The Amazon seller I ordered it from listed it as compatible with XPS 8100 (www.amazon.com/.../B008B9MUJ6;redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00), but I'm having an extremely difficult time installing the new fan. The screws on the fan line up with the holes on the motherboard; but when I push down firmly on one of their heads/springs, the screw doesn't go deep enough to actually catch on anything (and the pressure usually ends up causing the heatsink to slide away from the CPU). Is there something I'm doing wrong, or is this model fan not actually compatible with the 8100?

There is a threaded X on the bottom of the motherboard that the heatsink screws into.
If its not the same threads then its not going in.

Thanks - my motherboard does not have a piece like that, so looks like I was sent the wrong fan model.

You definitely have the wrong part. You need --- as I did --- the model with "push tabs" that go into those holes in the motherboard. Here's an example: www.ebay.com/.../181855390314
