Keyboard Not Working
I have a dell xps 600 and a friend of mine recently installed Windows Xp 64 bit or whatever over my original Windows Xp installation. I woke up the next day and I noticed the keyboard does not work. I unplugged and replugged my keyboard into the machine and it says.."Dell Keyboard" and then after a while goes away". In device manager it says "HID Keyboard Device" with an exclamation point to the left. The keyboard works in bios and I've also tried using a ps/2 keyboard. The keyboard works all the way up to the Windows loading screen, then the cap lock and num lock lights get locked. My friend left for New York today and I have no way to reach him. I read somewhere that I might need a 64 bit driver for all my hardware. On the back of my Dell keyboard it says "KEYBOARD MODEL: RT7D50" Any ideas how to fix my problem? Or perhaps you can tell me where to find a 64 bit driver? Thanks in advance.

Not sure what your friend installed driverwise, but if this is indeed XP 64 bit try installing the following 2 drivers for the 600:
Desktop System Software:
Chipset:
All drivers are here, but I don't see one specific to your keyboard issue other than trying the two above, before anything else:

This is really a software issue, not a hardware issue. The standard Microsoft keyboard driver should work however you may not have all the special function keys of the keyboard.
Repost this in the Windows XP software section. Someone that has XP64 may be able to assist you.

Where might I be able to find the new HID Keyboard Device driver that supports 64 bit? When I try to update the driver in Device Manager it says, "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)" And it says "Driver Version: 5.2.3790.1830 Driver Date: 10/1/2002" That sounds pretty old. Any ideas?
