Thx for update.

Performed Dell diag, came back ok, but...

2 independent memory testers found error.

Just sent to Dell Tech Support:

I have been tracking a memory issue for along
time, see 27SQN01. I purchased independent
memory tester (see below). I need to request
action by Dell to fix this problem. L2 Cache
module has failed. Norton Systems Works identifies
the problem and so does this independent tester. I
would like dell to recommend a solution and action
required on my part.

Thank You.

Was one of the diagnostic programs the Dell diagnostics. This is the only diagnostics Dell will recognize. If the L2 cache is defective you need to contact tech support. The pentium 4 comes in the 8100.

Well lets see here... There is no L2 "module" on current systems.

Hi,

What are the problems you were having that made you look at the RAM as a cause?

Ok,

So what is your recommendation..?

With only minimum in tray, open Quicken, Outlook,
Music Match, system resources 25% free.

Dell 8100 with 512 Ram should be able to multi-task
well beyond this....

Current Dell Laptop c600 screams with only 128 Ram
with P3 700 Mhz, where as home system is P4 1700 Mhz
with 512 ram.

Is it Window ME..? What else could it be..?

Thx

Scott,
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I wouldn't trust the results of Norton System Works' memory diagnostics. It's a known issue that System Works causes false failures if you have more than a certain amount of memory. I can't recall what the limit is off the top of my head but if you search back through this forum you will find posts about this. Symantec is also aware of the problem and I believe there is an article in their knowledge base about it.

Just out of curiosity, you mentioned in your post that you ran two independent memory testers. Obviously Norton System Works was one. What was the other? For the record, stonent is correct in that there is no L2 "module" on any current desktop PC. Since the Dell memory diagnostics didn't indicate any errors I doubt Dell tech support is going to care what the results of your other tests were and they probably won't do anything at all.
