Left Front Speaker not working Logitech Z5500

I replaced a Z-5450 sys w/a Z-5500 and the same problem persists with the left front spkr not working. Testing the sys gives sound but no sound during normal play. I think I've narrowed it down to the sound card as I have tried everything from switching the spkrs/wire to spkrs, etc. The only thing I think it can be is the sound card.

computer system ..sound card make...os running..

you say it will play during the test settings but not during use is that correct...

That is correct. I have been on the phone with Dell and Logitech a number of times and finally Logitech offered a swap, telling me they had problems with the Z-5450 so they offered (as I was still under warranty) to swap out the Z-5450 for a Z-5500. All I need do was send them the control pod which I did. When I received the Z-5500 I hooked it up and found I still had the same problem. The left front speaker was not working during play but emitted a sound when run through the test phase of the system. I have swapped out the spkrs, swapped the spkr wire and nothing works. The last time I spoke with Logitech I thought it was the wire from the control pod but they think it is the sound card from Dell. I haven't been able to get a hold of Dell and I have had problem after problem with printers from Dell. I have replaced the printer about three times and finally decided AIO's are out (too much going on and the printer can't handle it. I bought a Lexmark in a dual pack (E120 & an X4270). The laser printer works great but I have had trouble even with the multi-purpose Lexmark printer and have had to replace it. The most reliable printer I have is the E120. Back to issue. Dell has been good in replacing the printers but now I can't seem to find the time to contact them and it seems like it is more difficult to do so than ever.

That is really strange that it will output the test sound but not real sounds...the same circuitry is involved.
What sound do you have a card or intergrated???
Have youy tried to reload the drivers?

I'm not sure I understand your question but I haven't tried reloading the drivers. Would I do that thru Dell? The other question about the card? Sound or integrated? I have a sound card on the computer that came with the computer but not certain as to the type. I know it seems strange that the test phase works but not the actual music output.

you proably have a soundblaster of some sort.. you can go to the download section on the dell support site and look to see what driver is listed for your system.
open device manager and look in System device manager righ click on sound and video and see what it reports..

one other question what are u using to run the sound test....

Glad you got it fixed

Happy Holiday to you

I went to the Dell Support site and downloaded the drivers and voila the left front speaker is working now. I can once again enjoy the sound of music coming from both sides of the desk and from the rear surround sound. That was relatively simple. I thought I was going to have to replece the sound card. Thank you for your expertise and communication. Perhaps in the future I can assist someone as well as you have. Thanks, and Merry Christmas and a wish for a prosperous and blessed New Year for you and yours.
