Loading PBR for descriptor 2...done error :/

Hi

I'm currently having a problem with my E510 machine and whenever i start up the system it goes through the dell splash screen and then get the error

Loading PBR for descriptor 2...done

A disk read error occurred  Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to Restart

When i do, this just repeats.

This all started when i was doing a system restore and it got to around 50% and the computer crashed and said contact support. So when i rebooted, this is what i get now. I'm pretty good when it comes to computers, i took it into my college class and my teacher suggested if i clean the whole drive and it doesn't work it might be the motherboard.
I'm thinking he is wrong though because i can still access the BIOs and can still change the boot sequence and it still goes into the correct order that i set it to right?

Any help would be great

Thanks

This usually means the HDD needs to be replaced,Descriptor 2>means the drive is having trouble accessing/reading Vista(EDIT):Your OS partition.

You can try to run FIXMBR,but be CAUTIOUS,you will likely LOSE ALL data on the drive doing this.

You could also try and restore the dell factory image.XP>ctrl+f11,Vista>f12

1- Start up the computer and click F12 to give you the boot-up options.
2- Insert Windows Installation/Recovery CD into CDROM, choose CDROM boot option and click enter.
3- Let the installation process continue until it prompts you "Press R to repair". . .this should then take you into the DOS mode.
4- Type in FIXBOOT and when prompted, press "Y" to start creating the new boot partition. If everything goes right, you should get a message saying the partition was corrupted and a new one was created successfully.
5- Remove the CD and reboot your system, everything SHOULD be ok now.

EDIT:You can also use in step 4,  instead of FIXBOOT,type FIXMBR.

There is just a restore partition, there is no Windows XP Media Center CD at all.

You can find more links for this by googling FIXMBR and FIXBOOT without disk.
