loading programs in XP

This many be a dumb question..but i just got a Dell with preloaded xp on it. I am still learning the ins and outs of xp (Ihave 98se running on my other computer). My family enjoys having their own desktops...my question is...When I load a program and have the program put a shortcut on my desktop, the icon also appears on the other users (family members) desktop.

When my kids are loading their games I am getting those icons on my desktop. Is that normal?
If it is....Is there anyway to set it up so the program puts the icon only on your desktop? I know I can simply delete the shortcut, but I am wondering if it is normal or if something is amiss on my machine.

Thanks very much for any insights.

Good question. I have the same issue. I don't want my kids game icons to show up on my desktop.

Try going to your control panel, and selecting 'Users'..

When you first booted XP, you probably entered all your kids names in the boxes provided. As you'll see in your "Users" dialog box, they all have admin status.

From this screen you can change it so everyone on your user list can have his/her own "personal" windows.

Thanks for the reply. The kids have their own desktop, with their own wallpaper, screen saver.. et al. I am just trying to figure out if it is normal for their icons to appear on mine when they load a program on their desktop.
