Maximum Memory for 620

I have a Dell Inspiron 620 Desktop that has two memory slots.  I ordered with 8GB (4X2) which was what Dell said was the most.  Apple products allow you to increase memory above what it states a maximum, so I wondered if I could add 16GB (8X2) to the motherboard, or would the system only recognize the 8 GB?

I really don't want to purchase the memory if there is no way in hades that the 620 will recognise the extra memory.

There is no ripping anything.  There are 2 or 4 slots depending on the model.

2 GIG DDR2 sticks are Max.

2 slots = 4 gigs     4 slots = 8 gigs max  more than 3.5 gigs ram requires 64 bit os

2 gig is max DIMM SIZE

You CANNOT USE 4GIG OR 8 GIG Dimms in any model.

The max ram is 8 gigs total.  This is based on the chipset not Dell doing anything.

well then you should remove SpeedStep's reply as it is confusing...and what the hell is up with a comp only recognizing 8 gigs in this day and age? i bought one of these and im feeling VERY ripped off! and it's not just the inflated price either...the comp. is balls!, just plain balls!

SpeedStep, I bought a slim/2 memory slots 620 right off dell on 8/12/2011. It came with one 2GB SIMM and one 4GB SIMM, resulting in a total of 6GB of RAM.

SpeedStep has the correct answer. I can tell from literally 20 + years of IT experience, that brother Speed Step has the correct answer.   Thanks,  to SpeedStep!!

My question to speeedstep is, for the inspiron 620 with has 2 slots both filled with 2gig ddr2 which equals 4 gigs of 1600 max DDR2      Now my question is can I replace 1 of the 2 gig ddr2 sticks with one stick of 4 gig DDR2?!?, which if works would total 6 gigs of DDR2....   Please let me know at ypour earliest convenience.
