Opps,... Anyway, I was going to add a 512 stick of ram boosting it up to 1Gb but as I understand it I have to take out the original stick and replace it with two new 512 sticks. Is this true? Since it's rdram (kind of expensive) I was also wondering if it's possible to replace it with a whole different ram type?

Sorry, the D-8250 only supports RDRAM.

Thanks, is it true that if I want to put 1Gb in it that I can't just add 512 but completely replace it with an entirely NEW 1Gb?

No that is not true.

RIMM1, RIMM2
RIMM3, RIMM4

These are your memory slots that must be populated in pairs.

If you have an RD 256 in RIMM1 and RIMM2 for a total of 512Mb
you can populate RIMM3 and RIMM4 the same way for a total of 1Gb system RDRAM.

If RIMM1, RIMM2 are populated with RD 128, then you have a total of 256Mb system RDRAM
Populating RIMM3, RIMM4 will gain another 256 for a total of 512Mb system RDRAM

I do not contend that using different values of RDRAM in pairs is not possible, but it is not recommended.

All RDRAM should be of the same value contiguously.

You've perfectly illustrated my setup. It seems RDRAM of the 533MHz variety is only available in 512 and not 256. Since it's not recommended to mix 512 and 256 it sounds like I will have to get two new 512's. Correct?

In the future, by using the Advanced Forum Search on the bottom of this page, you can quite easily find the answer to this often asked question.

Most of what you've posted is not correct.

You can easily buy 256mb sticks.

There is absolutely no issue with combining 256 and 512 PAIRS.

Zipzoomfly has the sticks you need.
